Restaurant Listings In Iceland
On this page I shall be giving you listings and reviews of some of my favourite Icelandic Restaurants.
I will be rating them on two values, one will be the value for money rating, and the second one will be the overall experiance. Listing a different restaurant every week, I hope that it will be a invaluable and independent guide into your dining experiance in Iceland.
Hressingarskálinn
A lively downtown bistro, Hressinaskalinn or Hressó for short is always busy and has one of the best cheap menus in the downtown Reykjavík Area, it specials which always feature a Lamb course or Fish course of the day is made special by the resident chef Glenn from New Zealand. The menu is extenisive and always comes the way you want it, all you have to do is just ask.
Later in the evening after 10pm they stop serving food, and the tempo picks up with a mixed crowd of the young and trendy to the middle aged but cool crowd. And on a thursday friday and saturaday night there are live performances from local bands, but the most impressive is the resident band Touch.

SKOLABRÚ RESTAURANT
Possiblily the best restaurant in Iceland, Skolabrú is a beautifully decorated downtown restaurant, the owner Hendrick B Hermannson has now been in charge for the last few years and has turned it around into what it is now. With artwork adorning the walls from local artist Tolli Morthens the lesser known brother of Icelandic rock star Bubbi Morthens you feel that you are entering a really class establishment.
The menu created by Hendrick and the head chef Sigurður Helgason who is part of the Icelandic national culinary team changes seasonally and is always fantasic. Sigurður is accompained by an brilliant team including Daníel Ingi Jóhannsson and Ólafur Helgi Kristjánsson they produce dishes that are both pleasing to the eye and to the pallate.
Skolabrú not only features excellant food, the service is also first class and it also features one of the best wine lists in Iceland featuring wines from all over the world varying in price from the cheap to the ever so expensive.
It is always best to book in advance for Skolabrú especaially at the weekends when a booking of normally 2 weeks in advance is needed. The restaurant is closed on Sunday and Mondays excpet for group bookings.
Value For Money rating 4 out of 5
Overall rating 5 out of 5
